Rising out of the sea Damel's Tower is an impressive sight. It is made from large, quarried blocks of a green-tinted granite that under the moonlight give the tower an eerie glow and making it an excellent navigational aid. The tower is about 50' in diameter at the base and the walls reach a height of 60' above the waters, on a calm day. At the top the tower is 40' in diameter and is surmounted by a tall, peaked timber and tile roof that rises for another 20'. A 5-foot wide spiral staircase rises up out of the water on the North side of the tower and ends at a platform about 20' above the water on the South side of the tower. The staircase appears to be made of some sort of coral. The platform is made of the same material but there is no door or other feature where the platform ends. In fact, the entire tower is devoid of any features except for one solitary window facing to the North and located at water level, where the stair rises out of the water. Those few who have looked into the window say they can only see blackness. A few intrepid souls claim that the tower, staircase and all, continue down to the bottom of the sea, a depth of around 125 feet, and that at the base the tower is 70' wide.
Everyone who resides in the Crescent League know that a powerful mage named Damel built the tower, but only because growing up they were told it was built by Damel. The tower has been around for at least 100 years and no one living has managed to get inside the tower. Many a sailor has pulled up alongside the tower, mounted the stairs, and pounded on the wall or yelled out, only to be left standing there with the sounds of the water their only response.
Damel's Tower is a well-known feature and many use it as a navigational feature when sailing Damel's Gap, the stretch of water between Lookout Island and Kraglin Island. The consensus is that the tower is still inhabited as over the years people have seen various sights that lead to this conclusion. On several occasions passersby have seen the roof of the tower opened up like a four-segmented clam shell. On several occasions the corpses of sahuagin have been seen dangling from the stairs, and on one recent occasion a very large copper dragon was seen clinging to the side of the tower and apparently having a conversation with a section of the wall.
The area around the tower is known to be infested with large schools of barracuda and given the width of Damel's Gap the sea can be very choppy and unpredictable as water from the surrounding sea is funneled through the area. As such while many sailors use the Tower as navigational feature most never approach the tower. The risk of their ship be smashed up against the side of the tower is too great.
